Congratulations Phei Shan!

They are both Malaysians, but they never had a chance to meet each other. With God's help, fate brought them together in a foreign country. Struggling to adapt to a totally new culture and learning a new language, they found support and comfort in each other. That is the power of love.

Phei Shan is my ex-classmate. She is a very hardworking and easy going person. We shared a lot of memories together, be it good times or bad times. I could still remember how we used to squeeze in a crowded mini bus to the tuition center after school, how we helped each other to get a place to sit in a crowded classroom. And how she trained me to walk like a fully energized robot just to catch up with her fast walking pace. Those were the times.

Now she has found a loving husband who takes really good care of her. I am so happy for her, and wish her all the best and may they live happily ever after.

Tho she will only move back to Malaysia from Japan in year 2010 (after her husband completes his Phd), she is coming back for 2 weeks to hold a proper wedding ceremony and dinner in January. I am really looking forward to see u again. It's been a while.

Happy Halloween!

Tricks or Treat!

Halloween is not celebrated here in Malaysia, so you will never see anyone dress up in costumes on the street or in a party. How sad and disappointing..

I used to think that halloween is when you get to see scary costumes and people will dress up like draculas, vampires, witches, dead people or anything of that sort. Can't blame me for having such a shallow mind, it was portrayed that way in the TV all the time. Blame it on the media and the entertaiment industry.

In reality, that is really not the case now. Favourite or famous characters in movies are what you see on the streets during halloween weekends - Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, Edward the Scissorhand, Yoda from Star Wars, Catwoman, Harry Potter, Robinhood, etc. I saw a couple of pictures from my fren's halloween party in Canada, some kids were dressed up as the bunnies in the movie Alice in the Wonderland. Cute.

Jan Nee's Holiday Wedding Dinner

I am sure you've heard of the sad news regarding Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, the founder of the Genting Group and one of the world’s richest men, died on Tuesday. He was 90. It wasnt really a big shock cos he was a very old man, but because he was such an icon, it was really a great loss not only to his family but to the nation.

For myself, i was somewhat surprised because we just came back from Genting Highlands to attend Jan Nee's wedding dinner. And from what i heard, most of our colleagues who went to the casino that nite to try their luck, ended up losing. I guess it was a last donation to the King of Casino, his famous nickname to all Malaysians.

Back to the wedding dinner, it was the first time i saw most of my colleagues brought their other half, thanks to the complimentary room from First World Hotel. Albeit getting a very small room (dont ask too much when it comes for free), it was a good vacation to get away from the hustle bustle of the city.

The deco was very nice too, made the whole ballroom very lovey dovey. One thing tho, the service was very slow and the portion of the food was too small. But of cos, this on the other hand gave enuff room for the guys to drink more wine and liquor! There were officially FOUR person drunk that nite... and they puked "n" times...

By the way, it was Hoe Kheng's birthday too that nite. A joint celebration, tho that wasnt the initial plan. Happy Birthday Hoe Kheng! (belated now).

After dinner, they went for coffee in Coffee Bean but i was too tired to join them. My throat hurts as a result of talking too much but it's hard to keep my mouth shut when there were so many people that i knew that i havent seen for a long time. It was the best time to catch up and update each other.

As i am looking at my calendar now, i have wedding invitations every month starting from next month. My wallet is crying for help...

Sick and tired

The title says it all.

I was sick since late last week. I thought it was getting better when i went to a colleague's wedding dinner in Genting Highlands, but apparently the germs in my body has won the battle. I am too weak and tired to fight.

I lost my voice at one time and when it got better, i have to rehearse for an upcoming company event as an emcee - thus make it worse again. It wasnt entirely my intention, but there was nothing i can do. There is only 1 more week for me to recover, i wonder what will happen if i cant talk during the event. Someone would have killed me...

Hence now, i am being a good girl, drink lotsa liquids and taking cough medicine after every meal. Some of my colleagues laughed at me because i am carrying the medicine every day to work and back home. I earned the nickname of "The Medicine Girl".... :S

Krispy Kreme

I heard a lot about Krispy Kreme from my frens. The way they commented its doughnuts made me crave for one. But unfortunately, we dont have Krispy Kreme in Malaysia. So when i saw the store in Korea, I got a couple of them without thinking twice :)

There were lotsa people lining up, exactly like what my frens have described to me. It is amazing how doughnuts can be so popular among them, it is not considered as a very healthy food. Then i realized one thing, the Hot Light is lit up!

When it was my turn to order, i couldnt make up my mind. There were so many choices, i almost felt like getting each and every of them. Luckily my senses came to me on time, and i just picked 3. I surely couldnt skip the signature treat, Original Glazed doughnut - it's hot off the line!

I simply love the original glazed doughnut! I need to have more of that next time when i see a Krispy Kreme store! :) And i heard Big Apple just opened at The Curve and has a very big crowd too. I havent tried it yet, but alot of people commented Big Apple is better than Dunkin' Donuts but Krispy Kreme is still the best!

Oktoberfest is back for the third time!

I guess this year we shouldn't miss it since 1U is just right next door. I hope we will be able to get some RM1 beers cos when we got there last year, it was all snapped up!

How to reduce cold?

Lately, the office has become colder than it is usually. I thought the building people came and fixed the temperature few months back, but all of a sudden it decided to make a fuss. I could still remember how we reminded the guests from PHX to bring a sweater with them when they come to visit. Haha.

Anyways, this blog is supposed to be about food! Me and my lunch mates went to Plus One Shabu-Shabu restaurant today @1Utama, 1st floor. Their concept is same like Uncle Duck @ Times Square where u can choose ur own soup and the ingredients to be served. I chose the mutton set, which tasted very similar to beef.

The set lunch costed about RM13.90 per person (without tax). Not bad for such a steamboat retaurant. But i still prefer Uncle Duck @ Times Square :P

Nine Emperor Gods Festival

Last nite was the eve of the ninth month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. And that was the nite where the temple would hold a ceremony to welcome the Nine Emperor Gods (Kow Ong Yah in Hokkien) in a festival called the Nine Emperor Gods Festival. People actually come all the way from Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand because of this. Amazing.

Since the arrival of the Nine Emperor Gods is believed to be through the waterways, processions are held from temples to the sea-shore or river to symbolise this belief. It was a major celebration for Chinese and the roads were actually closed for public with the presence of the cops and security volunteers when they walked to the river last nite. I get the chance to witness it all from my condo because the temple is located close by. And of cos i cant just watched the whole ceremony without taking a few shots to share with u guys!

My mom loves to watch these kind of ceremony. When we were still staying at old house, further from the temple, she would asked me or my bro to drive her to join the crowd. We were reluctant of cos, because the road would be jam packed. Last nite, she was like a happy kid watching fireworks... haha.

Lavish and extravagant

We knew it was going to be a grand wedding. We knew it was going to be very interesting. We knew it was going to be extra hoo-haa. And we were absolutely right from the start. It could be named the "Wedding of the Year!" among all the weddings that i have attended so far.

Jessica's wedding was really worth the time and effort that she has spent for the past 1 year. There were some hiccups in between but nothing major. We couldnt really believe that she has actually been preparing for her wedding 2 years ago, even before they decide to settle down. She bought two wedding dresses (not rental - so should be quite expensive) and took it everywhere they went. With a tripod and a digital camera on hand, she and her hubby took alot of self made wedding photos, showed off dozens of lovey dovey poses - REMINDER : this is not for those who are weak-hearted. You could have sit on the couch and watch their pics for hours... *hehe*

I was supposed to be there earlier to be in charge of the confetti, but i was the latest to arrive due to the unexpected traffic in the city area. The bride and groom were already lining up outside the ballroom, getting ready to start the event when Jacq and i sneaked in to our positions beside the red carpet and take hold of the confetti. Oppsie, i am so sorry, my bad...

And NOT only that, i somehow failed to "launch" my confetti... (luckily the rest succeeded). *blushed*

The wedding dinner was kinda special because there were a lot of activities lined up by Jess and her mom. First was a Malay + Hawaiian dance by a group of her mom's friends. Well, i need to set this straight, altho the dancers were not young but they were still very good on the dance floor.

This was followed by a Chinese dance, with the typical Chinese accessories - a flurry fan. Eric kept on rolling his eyes whenever he looked at the dancers. Haha. He claimed to not have any appetite to eat after that... That was really funny, dont let Jess hear about ur complains. -___-

Last but not least, the highlights of the nite (besides the wedding couple doing the Waltz) - it is the belly dance! A mother and her daughter did a duet which saw their super flexible hips swaying according to the rhythm of the song. Not the best belly dance that i have seen, but it's entertaining enuff. After a few moments of cam-whoring, we went back home around 11:15pm, still very much sober.

Happy Birthday Sister Kai Yan!

She is already 14 years old this year. Wow, how time flies. I could still remember she was just a month old when i took care of her, feeding her, changing her diapers and singing to her to sleep. I guess it is a sign that i am getting older.

We celebrated her birthday yesterday (tho today is her actual birthday) in Uncle Duck Restaurant @ Berjaya Times Square. This place has came up in the local food programme called Ho Chak last week and since then, the restaurant has been as crowded as it can be.

There is no surprise that it is a popular eatery in KL nowadays because the food served is good. Altho the chef's speciality is roast duck, the steamboat is just as nice. It has a wide varities of soup - from the normal chicken soup, tomyam soup, it also has tomato and fish soup, HK style satay soup, super spicy soup, ginseng soup and not to forget the unusual duck congee stock. Everyone gets to choose the type of soup that they want, without having to fight over it because of different preferences. Some say it is more hygienic too, cos u have a pot each with all the food that u wanna eat. All under your own control, including the temperature.

I had the Australian Beef set. The sliced beef are so thin, it's cooked only a few seconds after u placed them in. I was told to take the sliced beef and just mildly shake it for 5 times in the soup and they are ready to be eaten. Absolutely delicious!

Before we end the celebration, we had an expensive ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins - it cost RM132 + 5% government tax. It better be good - and yes, it is. *yummy*
